The Nepalese Rupee (NPR) is issued by the Nepal Rastra Bank.
Common banknote denominations include:
- NPR 1, 5, 10, 20, 50

Smaller purchases, local restaurants, taxis, and mountain teahouses generally prefer cash payments.

You can exchange foreign currency at:

- Tribhuvan International Airport
- Hotels (selected hotels)
For the best exchange rates, we recommend using licensed money exchange counters in Kathmandu or Pokhara.
Always keep your exchange receipt, as it may be required when exchanging Nepalese Rupees back into foreign currency before departure.

ATMs are widely available in Kathmandu, Pokhara, Chitwan, and other major towns.
Before starting your trek, withdraw enough cash, as ATM facilities are generally unavailable in remote mountain areas.
Your bank may charge international withdrawal fees, and local ATM withdrawal limits may apply.
Mobile Payments
International mobile payment services are generally not accepted in Nepal. Most travellers should rely on cash, credit cards, or ATM withdrawals during their visit.
