As we are the local tourism promoter and entrepreneurs, our team always supports the local Sherpa guides and porters for sustainable tourism development in the Khumbu region of Nepal. Besides, we also care about the requirement of our valued guests.
Guide porter hire from Lukla means not for supporting the locals only, but for promoting the tourism sector as well as making the Everest trekking packages a bit cheaper.
Similarly, all our selected guides and porters whether from Lukla or Kathmandu are capable enough for trekking in every Himalayan sector of Nepal. They are experienced enough and can speak fluent English, are licensed holders, and the first aid trainer as well.
In the same way, it would be slightly cheaper to hire a guide in Lukla because our guests do not need to pay for the guide’s flight ticket for going to Lukla. Likewise, local guides are familiar with the local language, costume, and culture as well as the seasonal flora and fauna. So, it would be beneficial to learn more from them while comparing them to the non-local guides. However, if our valued guests require the guides from Kathmandu, we have also them available, but they need to pay both-way fees from/to Lukla for the guide’s flight tickets.
The typical Sherpa porters are physically very strong in comparison to others. So, they can carry the heavy load. However, the rules and regulations of porter rights allow carrying only about 20 kg of bag pack per porter. Such Sherpa is very useful for those trekkers who want only to hire a porter in Lukla, not a guide. Likewise, hiring a porter in Lukla means not for carrying a bag only, but can show the path too for solo Everest trekkers. And such kind of porter is described as the porter cum guide in the language of Nepal tourism.
This would not be difficult to find the guides and porters in Lukla because we have already sent them all the detail of our guests after their confirmation of trekking to Everest base camp or other trekking destinations in the Everest region. After your arrival at Lukla Airport, our guides and porters are there to stand by with your name card.
Normally, it costs USD 30 and USD 25 per day for a guide and porter respectively if you hire them from Lukla. This cost includes the full insurance of the guide and porter as well as their food and accommodation during the trekking time. However, if you are planning on hiring a guide in Lukla yourself, you may pay the higher rate or would be negotiable. But this may be an illegally unsafe way because it would not cover the insurance of the guide and porter. In case of emergency, you may need to be liable for yourself if bad things happen to those Sherpas. Conversely, those guides or porters may run away whether such bad things like AMS happen to you or in a normal situation, maybe with your bag pack.
In case of injury, illness, or AMS, our legal guide and porter apply first aid at first and contact us directly. Then we arrange the helicopter rescue if it is required. But your travel insurance must meet the Helicopter charter fees.
At last, Rising Adventure P. Ltd. suggests every trekker join the legally authorized company for guide and porter hire from Lukla.
