Essential Information

Meals along the Langtang Gosaikunda trek

In the Langtang Gosaikunda trekking, you will be provided with healthy, fresh, and nutritious meals available in the teahouse. The menu will have plenty of options for food items, ranging from authentic Nepali dishes to popular Western meals. The food menu items might get limited as we trek to higher elevations. You will be served 3-course meals (breakfast, lunch, and dinner) with one drink (tea) per day.

The most common dish throughout the trek will be daal bhat tarkari (rice, lentils, and veggies), which is nourishing as well as tasty. Other popular dishes include momo, soups, Tibetan bread, eggs, and pasta. It is highly recommended to stay hydrated and consume plenty of liquids throughout the day. You can consume hot lemon, green tea, and garlic soup, which will help in acclimatization. Avoiding alcohol and caffeinated drinks will be a very wise choice during your stay in high-altitude areas.

Accommodations during the Langtang Gosaikunda Lake trek

The overnight stay along the trail of the Langtang Gosaikunda trek will be in a comfortable teahouse/lodge, run by local Tamang and Sherpa communities. The room will have a bed, a pillow, matresses and a blanket. The teahouses in lower regions will be standard and have attached bathrooms. As we ascend to higher elevations, the rooms will be more basic.

Facilities like hot showers, WiFi, and device charging can be available with an additional charge. The rooms are usually not heated. The teahouses are equipped with a dining area, where you can sit nearby the well-lit stove in the evening to get warmth. The toilets can be western-style in lower elevations but you will only find squat-style toilets at the teahouses in higher regions.

Best time to do the Langtang Gosaikunda trek Nepal

The ideal times for the trek are during the spring (March-May) and autumn (late September to November) seasons.

Spring is the perfect season to witness the vibrant flora of the Langtang National Park, which comprises rhododendron blooms and dense green forests of birch and bamboo. The weather is also very pleasant during this season and the views of the Himalayan peaks are magnificent. Thus, making this season ideal for photography enthusiasts and nature lovers.

Similarly, another peak season for the trek is the season of autumn. This season is characterized by stable weather, warmer temperatures, and excellent views of the Himalayas. Trekkers can also partake in the festive vibes as the major festivals (Dashain and Tihar) are celebrated around this time (falls between September and October).

It is also possible to trek during monsoon and winter seasons but they have their own set of challenges. The trail gets slippery and muddy and there is little to no visibility during monsoon season. Similarly, the weather gets very cold, especially during the night and the trails are covered with snow, making the trek very challenging. With that said, trekkers are presented with quieter and more peaceful trails during these seasons.

Langtang Gosaikunda Trek Permits

The necessary permits required for the trek are:

  • Langtang National Park Permit: NPR 3000 per person
  • Shivapuri National Park Permit: NPR 1000 per person
  • TIMS (Trekkers' Information Management System): NPR 2000 per person

All the permits will be issued and collected by Rising Adventure. For the permits, you need to bring a copy of your passport (having at least 6 months of validity) and passport-sized photos.

Langtang valley and Gosaikunda Trek difficulty

The difficulty of the Langtang Gosaikunda trek can be labeled as moderate to challenging. The trek lasts about 2 to 3 weeks and involves 5-7 hours of walking on a daily basis, high-altitude trekking (Gosaikunda Lake, Laurebina Pass, etc) and rocky trails with plenty of steep sections.

The trek can be suitable for both seasoned trekkers and beginners who have great physical fitness and strong mental resilience. Altitude sickness is also a great concern, as we will be trekking above the 4000 m mark. To prevent acute mountain sickness, one should properly acclimatize to the high-altitude regions, stay hydrated, and walk at a steady pace.
